Transfer of inheritance

I am fascinated by the Zelophahad’s daughters  – the audacious five. They got their share of the promised land because they dared to ask. They asked in faith. They put a demand on Moses.

Now that they got it, what next? That is crucial. The ladies’ uncles approached Moses and said, “there is a risk. If these ladies married men of another tribe, all the inheritance will be transferred. We absolutely don’t want that to happen. Please advice on how to mitigate the risk asap.”

Moses then decreed that the ladies only marry within their Father’s tribe so that “the inheritance of the children of Israel shall not change hands from tribe to tribe, for every one of the children of Israel shall keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. And every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be the wife of one of the family of her father’s tribe, so that the children of Israel each may possess the inheritance of his fathers. Thus no inheritance shall change hands from one tribe to another, but every tribe of the children of Israel shall keep its own inheritance.” (‭Numbers‬ ‭36‬:‭7-9‬ NKJV)

I believe men of the differing tribe would not have mind marrying the ladies so they could get a share of the inheritance in addition to the portion they already had. Remember it is the promised land flowing with milk and honey – a good inheritance indeed.

Transfer of inheritance. Hmmmm. Conversely, bad inheritance can also be transferred. What could be a bad inheritance? Curses are definitely.

In any partnership (marriage in particular), it is essential to check that the ‘about-to-be’ spouse has not been marred with curses before tying the knot.

Even credit reference agencies here in the Uk, once one has a financial link say for instance with someone who has ‘earned’ a ccj or likes, it automatically works against both parties in making credit applications . So yes I completely agree as to even business partnerships etc
Hence the bible is particular in saying ‘Do not be unequally yoked ……etc..it’s simply to protect the child of God from giving what is sacred to dogs and throwing pearls to pigs (matt7:6) and of course being an active beneficiary of curses and ungodly inheritance etc..
Thanks Tope. This is a very reflective topic for me..
